Three Attractive Ways To Secure A Home

Anyone can turn a home in to a fortress. All it takes is time, money, and a complete disregard for aesthetics. However, keeping a home safe does not require making your living area in to a bunker. In fact, simply using devices like a wrought iron front door, motion lighting, and fencing can help keep a home attractive and safe at the same time.

WROUGHT IRON FRONT DOOR

The door is one of the first things a guest will see in a home, and choosing the right one is quite important. One always wants something attractive, but the right choice should also be something that is quite secure. While there are full metal doors that are quite hard to penetrate, it is better to invest in a wrought iron door to serve as an exterior, second door to the home.

While the wrought iron front door is quite the safety feature, these doors can also be quite attractive. The construction is distinctive, allowing for a certain decorative flair that most security doors simply lack. In addition, with the general strength of iron, the door can also serve well as the final line of a home’s security.

OUTDOOR LIGHTING

Every home should have outdoor lighting, and not just because it can aid in stopping potential thieves. Outdoor lighting helps to highlight the best parts of a home, provide illumination for outdoor events, and of course helps in those situations where one has to go outdoors a night. However, when it comes to simple security measures, outdoor illumination simply cannot be beaten.

Outdoor lights, especially those that work on a motion sensor, provide a strong deterrent for the criminal element. The bright light can be disorienting, provide an illusion of watchfulness, and can alert both the residents of the home and those in the neighborhood that an intruder is present.

FENCING

It seems odd to think of a fence as a deterrent to crime. After all, most homeowners erect a fence specifically to keep things in the yard, be it children, animals, or simply to provide a boundary for outdoor activities. Fencing can be a great addition to a home, providing an overall increase in property value and looks while still keeping the property safe from prying and eyes and from intruders. Even the simplest fences can provide obstacles for those that wish a home harm.

Of course, fences have traditionally been erected to keep people off property. They are, after all, the smaller version of the medieval wall around the castle. Even a simple waist high fence can prove to be a time consuming hazard for a thief, and a home that is harder to access is often a home that a thief will avoid. Large privacy fences, while not attractive, can make a back yard all but impenetrable, while shorter fences can provide an obstacle in the path of a burglar that is attempting to get away.
