How To Build A Profitable Website- The Key Strategies To Make Money Online

As any aspiring Internet marketer knows, the first question is almost always “How Do I Build a Profitable Website?” However, this question really speaks to all the different factors that go into producing a profitable website. It is almost like asking “How do I build a profitable business?” Sheesh, some people have written multiple books on that subject.

However, there are some key points you will need to understand before any website has a shot at being successful.

Before you can choose your keywords, you will need to select a niche, or topic to make your site about. I cannot stress this enough…the more specific the better. Most new marketers try to be too broad, and thus are never able to effectively target the traffic they want to come to their site that will convert to buyers. An example of this would be, rather than setting up a whole site about cameras, for example, you would setup a site surrounding one model of a camera, the Canon Rebel XSI 12.2mp. The narrow the focus, the more tightly you can target your keyword selection and your audience.

As a general rule of thumb, the larger and broader the niche, the more narrow and specific you must be to enable yourself to target the right keywords that will bring traffic to your site. This will require you to research your niche by going to online forums, checking info from places like Google Trends, going to EBay and Amazon to see what the “hot sellers” are. Find out where your target market lives online, what they care about, and then begin researching your keywords…the more specific (usually having more than two words or ‘long-tail’ keywords) the better.

Setting up a site is important, but choosing your domain name and finding out your keywords is even more important. In many ways your keywords and how you use them within your site will go an extremely long way toward whether your site will achieve good search engine rank. Learning about which keywords to choose and then building your site around them is very important. So, pick your keywords first, and then build your site, not the other way around. Remember, picking 50 low competition low volume keywords is better and more powerful over time than picking the top 10 high volume high competition keywords that everybody on the internet is probably targeting. Use the Google keyword tool or a similar keyword research tool to get started.

Unless you are a programmer or coder, the key aspect to remember is that you want to keep your site simple and easy to create, manage and contribute to over time. If you don’t, chances are you will not continue to work on it in the long run. So really it comes down to, what is the simplest way to get your site up and running? My suggestion would be to use a blogging platform, which is really just a large software program that will run your blog.

Now, you may be saying, “I don’t want a blog, I want a profitable website”….but work with me here. Today’s blogging platforms go well beyond their original purpose of being ‘just’ for blogs. In fact, with an easy and versatile blogging platform called WordPress, you can customize your site to look like just about anything. Add this to the fact that these customizations are very easy to accomplish by the use of tiny free software programs called “plugins” that can mostly be downloaded for free, and the use of movable “widgets” that allow you to do even further modifications. When I say easy, I mean no programming, and about 2 minutes of your time and three mouse clicks. The hardest part about widgets and plugins for WordPress is finding the best one for your needs, as there are literally tens of thousands of them out there, most for free.

Building a profitable website is a goal that is easier to achieve now than it ever was in the past. This does not mean it doesn’t require care and attention, but it is something you can do yourself with enough effort. Want to know more about how to build website, do SEO and research keywords?
